The shadowy billionaire, who hasn’t spoken on the record since 1974, is trying to lock in Jackson film and keep the Weekly Standard in print.
Throughout his career, Michael Jackson surrounded himself with unusual characters, from Marlon Brando to Bubbles the chimp. As his life was subsumed in controversy and financial difficulties, Jackson took on surprising advisers, like members of the Nation of Islam, orthodox-rabbi-turned-reality-show-host (and advocate of something called The Kosher Sutra) Shmuley Boteach, and Saudi prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.

President Obama's Message for Far-Left Fringe

June 9, 2010 - 23:04 ET

Watch
Glenn Beck weekdays at 5p & 2a ET on Fox News Channel

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, JUNE 8, 2010)

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: And I don't sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar; we talk to these folks because they, potentially, have the best answers, so I know whose ass to kick.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Have you ever heard this sort of language from a sitting president in an interview? This isn't exactly the kind of thing that resonates with Americans. Americans want the president to uphold and defend the Constitution. They don't want him looking for some ass to kick.

But if the message wasn't meant for the average American, who was it meant for? Let's listen to some of the other voices complaining:

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP, JUNE 8, 2010)

ROSIE O'DONNELL: I say seize their assets... right now. Seize their assets today. Take over the country, I don't care. Issue an executive order and say, BP, guess what? Call it socialism. Call it communism. Call it anything you want. Let's watch Rush Limbaugh explode on TV. Seize the assets, take over BP.

(END AUDIO CLIP)

Just seize it?

Here's Bill Maher:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, AUGUST 25, 2009)

BILL MAHER, HBO HOST: You can't get Americans to agree on anything. Sixty percent — 60 percent — of people don't believe in evolution in this country. He just needs to drag them to it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

And here's what Andy Stern said this week:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, JUNE 7, 2010)

ANDY STERN, FORMER PRESIDENT OF SEIU: America needs a 21st century economic plan because we now know the market-worshipping, privatizing, de-regulating, dehumanizing American financial plan has failed and should never be revived, worshipping the market again. It has failed America and everyone that works here.

(APPLAUSE)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

The free market has failed? No, greed has failed.

That's who Obama was sending a message to: the far-left fringe; the Marxist revolutionaries. He's trying to pacify them because they are angry. He's telling them he'll kick some ass and drag them to it.

Now, it's important you understand that doesn't mean everyone in the Democratic Party. But I told you on this program that the masks would eventually come off and they'd just admit who they are:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, APRIL 22, 2010)

GLENN BECK: It's only a matter of time before this collapses. But it's a dangerous time, because that's going to frustrate the other side and they will become more and more desperate. They will — they already are taking the mask off.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Listen to the rhetoric; the masks are off, gang. And that's who Obama is addressing, because that's a large part of who he's surrounded himself with: radical revolutionaries. And they are angry.

And that's why I also told you on this program that the president is in danger:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP, JANUARY 20, 2010)

BECK: The most dangerous time in any regime, especially a revolutionary regime, is when it is on the verge of collapse. A regime with revolutionaries in it, it is trouble. The Democratic Party is collapsing. It's either going to have to renew itself or it's going to collapse and it is chockfull of revolutionaries.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

Think about it. Look at the fundamental transformation that has happened so far since Obama took office — the most since FDR's New Deal: health care; government takeovers of car companies, banks and insurance companies.

And they're mad? Where does it end? Let me show you this chart. Remember this one? On one end we have total anarchy and on the other end we have total government.

Have you ever heard of the Black Flag Movement? It's supposed to represent the absence of a flag and is a rejection of any form of representation or institutions representing people. It was commonly used by anarchists. The Black Flag Movement started in the late 1800s and has its roots in socialism.

In April of 1919, through June of that same year, anarchists set off a series of bombings meant to fuel the anti-left Red Scare of 1919. They targeted all kinds of politicians and other government officials. Thirty booby trap bombs were sent. The day they were all supposed to go off: May Day, the communist revolutionary day.

Here's another historic note: Karl Marx. You may wonder how it is that so many people still follow him considering that every time his ideas have been implemented, they have not only failed but they've failed to the tune of over 100 million deaths at the hands of tyrannical governments with too much power. The excuse that Marxists give is that it hasn't been implemented in the right way just yet. What's the right way?

Here's what Marx said:

"At a certain stage of their development, the material forces of production in society come in conflict with the existing relations of production.... with the change of the economic foundation the entire immense superstructure is more or less rapidly transformed, in considering such transformations the distinction should always be made between the material transformation of the economic conditions of production which can be determined with the precision of natural science and the legal, political, religious, aesthetic or philosophic — in short, ideological forms in which men become conscious of this conflict and fight it out."

They are talking about fundamental transformation. They believe if they can just get the most iconic capitalist giant of a nation (that's us) to collapse on itself then they can point to capitalism as failed state (sound familiar, Andy Stern?) and implement their Marxist utopia here.

That's what these people believe and that's what they are going for.

You know, it's funny, I'm called an extremist. The Tea Parties are called extremist. Nancy Pelosi cried about all that dangerous rhetoric, but she didn't cry when progressives actually threw stuff at her.

They told us: Oh, don't worry — we just want to do health care for the people. That's it. No, they're not. They're radicals and they're not happy, despite getting the health care and all the government takeovers and increase in government power happening right now.

Understand: This is the biggest transformation of our system possibly ever in the history of our country and it's still not enough. If they get financial reform, government will control 70 percent of our economy. Politicians thought they could co-opt revolutionaries. Progressives want to take it in baby steps. You want the most clear cut example of this? Here it is.

They're tired of the baby steps.

So what is the end? What are they shooting for? What is enough?

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

O'DONNELL: Seize their assets today. Take over the country, I don't care. Issue an executive order and say, BP guess what? Call it socialism. Call it communism. Call it anything you want.

(END AUDIO CLIP)

Van Jones said that he's dropped the radical pose in favor of the radical ends. What were those radical ends? He was in a group called STORM — Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement — a group whose members included anarchists and communists. Their tactics:

Revolutionaries need to be militant in street actions. As leaders in the fight for liberation, we should be role models of fearlessness before the state and the oppressor

Mobilize young people of color into militant direct action

Learning not to joke about government surveillance or violent criminal activity and learning to be cautions in our use of telephone and e-mail communications are valuable tools for serious revolutionaries

Marches were militant and confrontational, regularly defying police commands and occasionally plunging through police lines and barricades

The stated goal for STORM: Working towards getting the country to make a definite and collective shift towards communist politics.

I'm going to make the STORM handbook available in my free e-mail newsletter.

This is why I've said that the president is in danger: He's got revolutionaries all around him who believe in this and that the ends justify the means.

Now you have an idea what modern day anarchy is.

Foreign Influence by Brad Thor - The Big Thrill

Foreign Influence by Brad Thor - The Big Thrill

Foreign Influence by Brad Thor

foreign-influence.jpgBrad Thor brings back his hero, Scot Harvath, in another gripping and pulse-pounding thriller. Hopefully there is someone like Harvath protecting our country from our enemies. Brad talked about his latest thriller to ITW.

What sparked the idea for Foreign Influence?

The idea for Foreign Influence actually came from conversations with two different friends.

The first was a conversation I had with Glenn Beck. We were discussing turmoil in other nations and how we send operatives over to tip things one way or another. Glenn asked me how many nations I thought were sending operatives here to America to do exactly the same thing right now.

The second conversation was with my friend, Barrett Moore - the founder of the private military corporation, Triple Canopy. We talked about a white paper published by a nation hostile to America that detailed how they could absolutely crush us without ever meeting us on the conventional battlefield. The plan involved co-opting Islamic terror groups to do their bidding in a first wave of attacks. Once the terrorists were unleashed on America and American interests abroad, a whole series of incredibly unconventional attacks would begin in areas we had never before considered. It was terrifying and made even more so by the fact that this plot actually exists and is fact, not fiction.

Why the job change for Scot Harvath?

I'm a big believer that there is nothing the government can do better than the private sector - and this goes double when it comes to spying. This reality has played itself out in the last several months across the pages of the New York Times. America is learning that the Department of Defense has been hiring private spies because the CIA is either unwilling or unable to provide the DoD with the intelligence it needs. This is fascinating, real-life intrigue.

I see some form of Private Espionage Corporations as the next big thing in National Security and I wanted my new thriller to be on the cutting edge of that.

What made you bring back the Troll in Foreign Influence?

Out of all the characters I have created, the Troll is one of the most popular. I have been looking for the right storyline for him over the past couple of books. He resonates with a lot of people and plays on both sides of a very fine line between good and evil. This book was the perfect book to bring him back for. The storyline cried out for his involvement; his special way of dealing with the world and his enemies.

Where does the idea come from to have a private organization like the Carlton Group gather intelligence?

I began to introduce the concept of private intelligence gathering in my novel, The First Commandment. I had been reading a lot about how backlogged many intelligence agencies had been in transcribing emails and telephone conversations of suspected terrorists. I was also keenly aware of how even going back to the time of the Romans, great militaries could not effectively wage war without the assistance of auxiliaries (a much more dignified and appropriate term than contractors).

thor-brad2.jpgI watched the ever-increasing role of private military corporations in Afghanistan and Iraq. Retired Special Operations Forces personnel were choosing to work with organizations like Triple Canopy rather than joining the CIA in its paramilitary efforts. Many of the men (and women) I spoke with who were doing this, shared that they were turned off by government bureaucracy and preferred serving their country via the private sector.

When I put this information together with the multiple backlogs at government intelligence agencies, it seemed only a matter of time before government would turn to the private sector for help in the intelligence arena as well. This is indeed what has happened. Over the course of the last several months there have been multiple articles written in the New York Times about intelligence gathering overseas by private organizations contracted by the government.

How helpful are the men and women on the front lines with your research?

They are absolutely invaluable. As I said, reality is the bedrock of what I write. The details must be spot-on. I am very fortunate to have the front-line input that I do.

You created a team of female operatives in Foreign Influence. What was your intent in creating this unit?

Over the last fifteen years, I have spent a lot of time around high-end Olympic, professional, and semi-professional athletes; both male and female. I found the women to be just as determined and skilled as their male counterparts. There were many whom I thought would make exceptional counterterrorism operatives. Just think of the places they could go and the things they could do without ever raising any suspicion.

When I heard rumors that the Army's elite Delta Force unit was recruiting high level female athletes for exactly that kind of work, I knew I wanted to be the first to write about it. I also wanted to create a new class of hero that women could look up to and admire.

How difficult is it to entertain with story lines that terrify us in the news?

Reality is the bedrock of a good political thriller. Your foundation has to be solid, believable, and if you really want it to be a hit - timely. You have to beat the news, beat the headlines. You have to give people (today) what is about to happen outside their door tomorrow. This isn't easy. A political thriller writer has to eat, sleep, and breathe current events. You also need to be able to turn those events upside down and give people a great "what if?" Coming at a believable topic from a completely unimagined angle is what makes thrillers captivating.

Working with headlines that terrify adds excitement and provides readers with a chance to engage some of their most immediate, pressing fears. This is why people use words like "engaging" and "compelling" to describe the thriller genre.

How do you maintain the intense pace in your writing?

You do this by keeping the pressure up on your characters. Just when you think things are going one way, you throw them a curve. There must be huge stakes and your characters must be completely vested in the outcome. If they win they live. If they lose they die. That's the concept in a nutshell.

Are you going to be doing two novels a year now? Does this mean a new series?

I am indeed doing two novels a year now. In Foreign Influence Scot Harvath is assisted by a very special team of female operatives - based on the female operatives of Delta Force. The first book in this new series is entitled, The Athena Project and it will be published on November 23rd.

Glenn Beck: Turning Fiction Into Reality

June 16, 2010 - 0:43 ET

Watch
Glenn Beck weekdays at 5p & 2a ET on Fox News Channel

Today, I'm asking you to really change the way you think. You are going to want to take your time with this one; it's going to require some imagination.

Let's start by taking a look at these things:

Marxists in the White House

Overspending

Cloward and Piven

Cap-and-trade

Net neutrality

Government health care

Pushing away Israel

Global governance

Do you think all of these things exist on their own or are they in some way connected?

Let me put it this way: Data points. When banks and investors look at economy they look at a variety of factors: unemployment; the stock market; consumer debt; price of energy; the price of food; imports; exports; the Baltic Dry Index, etc. They look to see what the overall picture tells them.

But the media want you to only look at one of these stories at a time.

When you buy a house, do you only look at the price? Do you only look at the location or the schools or the size? No, you look at everything together to get the full picture. That's what we try and do on this show: Take all of these data points and put them together and show you what the complete picture looks like. But in doing that, the media try to say they are not connected and anyone who thinks so is paranoid.

If you are a long-time viewer of my program, you may have noticed a trend in the past year or so. Yes, I'm getting a little pudgier, thanks for noticing, but that's not it. We don't have many guests, but when we do, the overwhelming majority of them are either historians or fiction novelists. You may be thinking, OK, historians, I get that. But fiction novelists? They write fun books and everything, but why feature them on a news program?

The Overton Window, coming Tuesday, June 15

Well, here's the reason I love talking to these guys: They're war gamers. They think out of the box. They're the people who force you to think the unthinkable. But not only that, many times they are right. Because they aren't just making stuff up, they base their stories in truth. They're called paranoid by many people, in fact, The Washington Post called my new fiction thriller paranoid: "Glenn Beck's Paranoid Thriller, 'The Overton Window.'"

They fear that it will incite rebelliousness among "anti-government extremists" who will tuck the book into their ammo boxes on their way to becoming the next Timothy McVeigh. Hmm, who's the paranoid one here?

But why ridicule someone for thinking out of the box? People don't consider it war gaming when the Pentagon does it and they shouldn't. It's actually the smart thing to do.

Which of the following options sounds more irresponsible to you:

A) Think of as many different unlikely (yet possible) scenarios and play them out

or

B) Assume that we've got every possible situation covered already and there is nothing that can catch us by surprise

All of these think tanks out there, most of them are just produce papers of policies. They aren't thinking out of the box and they're not actually running scenarios and computer models based on their ideas. Except for one: The Center for American Progress. If you are not familiar with that, it's the pet project for uber-wealthy progressive George Soros. But most think tanks don't get it. Fiction authors do.

And the Pentagon knows that. After the Sept. 11 attacks, the Pentagon convened a group of fiction writers like Brad Thor, Vince Flynn, Nelson DeMille and asked them to join in the war game sessions. It wasn't the first time they had talked to authors. I had Nelson DeMille on radio a couple of days ago, he had written a story in 2000 about terrorists hijacking planes and gassing everyone. Here's what he was told by war gamers in D.C. a year before the 9/11 attacks:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

NELSON DEMILLE, AUTHOR: I did a lot of research with the Joint Terrorist Task Force here in the city and they said to me — I said, what is the next target in the United States? What is the next target in America for terrorists? And they said, the World Trade Center. And this was in the year 2000. The World Trade Center had been attacked, if we remember, in February 1993 with a truck bomb in the basement. They said, look, they missed and they are going to do it next time. And they said to me — and this is 18 months maybe before it happened — it will be Learjets full of explosives and gasoline flying into both towers with suicide bombers...

What happened, it was not a shock to me when it happened that morning because I had heard it a year and a half before.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

These guys won't reveal their sources, but they will tell you what people honestly think and what could be coming our way in the future. It's why I love talking to them; they are well-informed, and many times, way ahead of the game.

In his 1994 book "Debt of Honor," Tom Clancy imagines a rogue pilot taking control of a jet and crashing it into the U.S. Capitol as the president of the United States addresses a Joint Session of Congress. From the book: "The entire east face of the building's southern half was smashed to gravel which shot westward — but the real damage took a second or two more, barely time for the roof to start falling down on the 900 people in the chamber: 100 tons of jet fuel erupted from the shredded fuel tanks."

Did you know that Ayn Rand, author of "Atlas Shruugged," had a hard time getting a publisher in America for her book "The Anthem"? One publisher rejected it on the grounds that the author does not understand socialism, which is particularly funny because she was born in St. Petersburg. She was 12 years old the revolution of 1917 broke out. She was there when it happened and violence took place right in front of her. She lived there until she was in her 20s. She saw the brutality of communism.

You'd think the media would love a success story like this, but Ayn Rand was soundly mocked in the media. Even after achieving success, she was still routinely bashed by critics. Here's what the media elite thought of "Atlas Shrugged":

"Not in any literary sense a serious novel" — The New York Times

"Somebody has called it: 'Excruciatingly awful.' I find it a remarkably silly book. It is certainly a bumptious one. Its story is preposterous." — Whittaker Chambers

"As an instrument of propaganda, this book is a moderate success; as a work of art, it is a noble failure" — Portsmouth Star

"1,168 Pages of Soap Opera Philosophy and Propaganda" — The Savannah News

Just how strange were the concepts in it? Let's see: The book focuses on how politicians respond to crises — many times created by themselves — by creating new government programs, laws and regulations. She wrote in "The Voice of Reason": "One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."

Is that not happening today? How many times have you heard "capitalism has failed"?

She also showed how politicians would dress their redistributive legislation in happy sounding names. Sound familiar? Tell me which ones are from the book and which one is real:

"Anti-greed Act"

"Emergency Economic Stabilization Act"

"Equalization of Opportunity Act"

Clearly, Ayn Rand had no idea what she was talking about.

Glenn Beck: Spies among us?

Audio Available:

June 29, 2010 - 13:57 ET

Foreign Influence, by Brad Thor

GLENN: Let me bring in Brad Thor because I haven't read this yet but you read this already, Brad?

THOR: I did, this morning.

GLENN: Okay. Brad Thor has a brand new book out called Foreign Influence. And before we get to what this, what the book is about, tell me about this, this article and this spy that we just nabbed.

THOR: Well, apparently, Glenn, one of the spies, one of the Russian spies was doing op ed pieces, you know, right out of the leftist's progressive handbook, all of the talking points were there, about how evil the United States is, she talked about our Nazi like, Nazi like legislation, how we were imprisoning all these people wrongfully and our political agenda and what we're doing and blah, blah blah, blah blah. It's all there, and it's — it's stunning.

GLENN: America, I mean, we are being set up. We're being set up. Brad, I don't remember the conversation we had over a year ago?

THOR: It's about the time that things were going on in Iran with that kind of Democratic revolution that was happening and Obama was stepping up for the dictator down in South America saying it's terrible they kicked him out, but there was no support of pro democracy demonstrators in Iran. I believe it was about that time.

GLENN: Okay. And I called you and I said we have foreign operatives here in America, I know this because I know enough special ops people that during the Cold War they went into the former Soviet Union and they went into Poland and they pushed. They saw the end was near and they helped push. They helped sow the seeds of discontent, and we did it in the labor unions and everything else.

THOR: Yep.

GLENN: They are here. That's what I said to you.

THOR: Well, you said we've done this, we know we've put operatives into foreign countries to take advantage of turmoil to push things in the direction we want them to go. And you said, Brad, they're here doing, doing it here, aren't they? There are nations doing it to us. And I said, you bet they are.

GLENN: And you started doing research.

THOR: Started doing research. I said, this is what my new thriller's going to be about and that's what I based Foreign Influence on, with them being here.

GLENN: Can you tell the story? Because I know there's part of this that you can't tell.

Insider Extreme members can catch the rest of the interview in hour 3 and Brad's appearance on today's 4th Hour on demand. Learn more...

THOR: Because I don't want to give away.

GLENN: I understand, and you don't want to give away the, kind of the shocking thing. But it's true. You started doing research and what did you find?

THOR: Absolutely. What I found was that one nation that was hostile to the United States actually had two of its colonels who published kind of a white paper on how the United States could be taken down, and it doesn't involve meeting us on the conventional battlefield. They realize that's a losing proposition. So they talk about all of the different ways they can go after us, whether it's co-opting Al Qaeda — and this was before 2001. And they talked about how they could use Al Qaeda to carry off a major terrorist attack in the United States and what that would do and how that would begin shaving down our civil liberties, how if you could push things with enough turmoil just from terrorist attacks, you could start getting the government to close in for quote/unquote the benefit of the people.

GLENN: I have to tell you, Brad, this is what the Overton Window shows in the boardroom meetings and the villain of co-opting people and using all of these things and just tying them all into one and putting people together. The coalition that the left now has built in reality, not fiction but in reality, communists, leftists, just run of the mill, you know, nut job Panther people. Just, some of the worst of the worst. ACORN. All of these organizations that are, that are shady at one end and downright calling for a violent overthrow of the United States of America, and they've cobbled them all together and pushed them into the Barack Obama and the DNC camp. This is what's happening. It is — it really is about just building coalitions, isn't it?

THOR: Absolutely. That's exact. It's community organizing on a scale that's terrifying. And what the end goal is, is for them to completely flip it to the model that they want.

GLENN: Can you in the book — and I'm sorry, Brad. I've just been so busy, I haven't — believe it or not, I'm four chapters behind in our next book and so I haven't had a chance to read yours yet, and I will. You are one of the only authors that I get a book on my desk and I will read it not because you are a friend of mine but because I know it's good from start to finish. But in your book can you easily translate it to — because this is a foreign enemy that does it, right?

THOR: Well, here's the deal, Glenn. As I went after this in the research, I realized I had bitten off more than I could chew in one book and I realized that this was going to be a couple of books. And the plan, as I started peeling back the layers of the onion and seeing these groups that have been put together to overthrow the United States, as I was doing this research, what I was able to find through talking to intelligence sources, people in the military, things like this, it is stunning how long, how patient these people have been inserting themselves throughout the country and putting themselves in different places and how they've been working to put this entire plan together.

GLENN: See, it's amazing. People always say, "That's a conspiracy."

THOR: No, it's not.

GLENN: I mean, look at the Russians that we just picked up. They've been here for years. These people who are against the United States, they know. You don't just take a country down like that. It takes time.

THOR: One spoonful of socialism at a time. It's not going to happen overnight. It's going to happen, one teacher at a time, one priest at a time as we're seeing now. They are trying to co-opt churches. I mean, it is amazing what these people will do.

GLENN: What was the one I read last night about a big meeting at a church. What are you referencing? There was something I read just last night or the night before and it's stunning what's happening in our churches.

THOR: It's not only the green movement, how they are trying to insinuate themselves into churches that way. There's also a big push by the Russians. They would love to see the seed of the Eastern orthodox church moved out of Istanbul and put in Moscow so Putin can control the message throughout Eastern Europe and they are doing that by trying to co-opt the bishops here in the United States in the Eastern Orthodox church. I mean, they are running rampant here.

GLENN: You've got to be kidding me.

THOR: Nope. Glenn, every time I turned around, I picked up the phone, another person was calling me for this thriller, I was stunned at the information I was getting.

GLENN: Brad, how much trouble do you think — how much time do you think we have of just being... before it really dawns on people, we're in the fight of our life?

THOR: Listen. When you look at Alinsky's Rules For Radicals and he talks about defeating capitalism, the next step people don't get much further than that. The next step is dictatorship, and that's how you move to utopia. You've got to have a dictatorship. The people that help overthrow the country then become the subject of a dictator. The left doesn't even get that.

GLENN: Yes, they do. They refuse to admit it. Brad Thor, Foreign Influence. Available now everywhere.
